Amber Alert: Missing Persons Update

Unless she shows up on Outnumbered tomorrow, Tuesday will mark four weeks since Andrea Tantaros vanished from the Fox News airwaves. After a short-lived stab at explaining her position (the unconvincing “free speech” gambit) she changed course and clammed up. She has since “protected” her twitter account—only people she approves as followers can read it. That is not exactly an ace move if you’re trying to promote a new book (it’s currently ranked #4457 at Amazon). This hunkering down tells The Cable Gamer that, while Tantaros picked the wrong toes to step on, at least she learned from her first stumble and knows this is not a time to dig a deeper hole.

Another Fox News employee among the missing is Ed Henry, who it was learned was conducting an extra-marital affair with a Las Vegas lady. He immediately left the air and went into radio (and every other kind) silence. The Cable Gamer wondered about the reaction; a Fox & Friends Weekend co-host not only had an extra-marital affair with a guest of the show but fathered a child. There was barely a hiccup in his role at Fox News. True, there may be a higher standard for a Washington correspondent than a morning chat show host. But there is another reason Mr. Henry’s case is more troubling:

Now the National Enquirer‎ is reporting Henry sent Lima raunchy sexts plus a picture of his penis — which, mercifully, the publication pixilated. Sources say Henry has a “morality clause” in his contract, which means he could be fired if he does anything to embarrass the network.

Roger Ailes is quoted noting a lack of judgment, “especially given his position as a journalist.” Ed Henry is a talented, tenacious reporter. He may survive this but, with the redolence of Anthony Weiner now hanging over him, it’s an uphill battle.

Finally, there’s the case of Michelle Fields. After her high-visibility clash with Trump’s campaign manager, she stopped appearing on Fox’s Cashin’ In, hosted by Trump-friendly Eric Bolling. The PR suggested it was a mutual decision until things calmed down, but that happened long ago and she’s still not back. Now with a new role at Huffington Post, the odds are getting longer.

Fields and Fox might have worked this out in a few week’s time if she hadn’t crossed an important line. While Fox News has no problem with differing viewpoints, they obviously take a dim view when people start hitting the channel’s journalists and hosts with personal attacks. (This is not unique to FNC; MSNBC banned Markos from the air because, among other things, he promoted a highly dubious rumor about Joe Scarborough). Michelle Fields did impugn Sean Hannity’s integrity, but she’s hardly alone on that limb. No, it was something else that really sealed her fate.

Fields let it be known that she was planning a defamation suit against the Trump camp, and a Fox News host who is also an experienced attorney offered some unsolicited, but friendly, advice:

Yes, the burden of proof is less in a civil case, but she is just not going to win and it will be expensive and a heartache. Even if one can win, it is not always worth it. Anyone encouraging this young woman to bring a lawsuit is irresponsible to her.

That may not have been what Michelle Fields wanted to hear, but there’s no reason to doubt it was offered in good faith. Fields could have just let it pass without comment, or said thanks, I’ll think about it. Instead, she aimed a tactical nuke at Greta and fired:

If you have a regular spot on a well-rated show on Fox News, you don’t want to go calling one of their top program hosts a “shill”—i.e. a person motivated not by truth or journalism but by their own personal profit or self-interest. You especially don’t want to do it to Greta van Susteren, who is widely liked and admired across political and social strata at Fox News. Talk about crossing a line! But Fields has shown no remorse (not even the token step of deleting the tweet), and The Cable Gamer will be surprised if Roger Ailes ever lets her in the building again.

By the way, many weeks have passed yet the announced defamation suit has yet to materialize. And Fields quietly stonewalls when asked about it. Maybe her own attorneys gave her the same advice Greta did. That would add a touch of irony to the outburst that may have ended the Fox News career of Michelle Fields.

Give me a break. Greta is a Trump Shill. Greta falsely attacked Michelle from the beginning. When it first broke Greta sent out one of her pathetic Greta Wires:

    http://gretawire.foxnewsinsider.com/2016/03/11/thoughts-about-the-trump-campaign-and-the-controversy-over-journalist-michelle-fields/

And you falsely act like her saying what she did to Greta had any impact. It didn’t. Bolling had no intention of having her back. Bolling didn’t once contact Michelle at all to see if she was ok or anything. He did manage to throw her under the bus on “The Five” (and act like he didn’t see her grabbed on the video). They just wanted things to die down. #CashinIn has been getting crushed in the ratings weekly without Michelle on the show. Bolling has tried everything but no luck. The closest #CashinIn came to not getting blown out was the Saturday after he announced on “The Five” he would be addressing the Michelle Fields situation. His twitter was flooded with people attacking him before that. People saying they would never tune in again.

And Bolling even walked right past Michelle when Michelle was hugging Megyn Kelly at the WHCD. He directly snubbed her while with his buddy Eric Trump. Several of Michelle’s friends had to be held back because they wanted to go after Eric because he is a not a good person at all.

Also two regular pundits who stood up for Michelle on air against Trump/Corey have been absent from Greta’s show. They also don’t appear anymore on the even worse Trump supporter’s show Lou Dobbs.

Greta is no respected journalist. She’s a joke. Worst of all Greta lectures everyone with her Greta Wires. Yet, here is Greta being buddies with a guy who sends unsolicited pictures of his penis. Greta puts that pervert on air. She fawns all over him. The guy should be in jail. He’s no different than a flasher on the street. Greta pretends to be a “journalist”. She’s really no different than Bill or Sean.

And Michelle was right to take on Sean. First he made false claims about the guest appearances. He knows very well that Trump and Trump surrogates have dominated the air time on his show since the beginning of the year. But he will try and just limit it to the # of appearances by Trump, Cruz or Kasich. And he also throws in radio appearances. Sure throw out the time they each got and don’t include appearances of spox for them. Many times, Sean will have on 3 Trump supporters talking the election. Eric, Kimberly and one other Trump supporter. Nobody at all representing the other side.

Also, I love how you failed to mention all the times Greta was slamming Michelle on air. Remember her little love fest with P Morgan? Lets both attack Michelle in tandem. Greta was completely wrong. Greta is an embarrassment to Fox News. Just like Judge Janine. Is she trying out to be Trump’s Atty General?

I also love how you omit how Megyn Kelly also called out Greta for not supporting her during all the Trump attacks. But then that would hurt your case against Michelle. Because you want Michelle to look like she’s in the wrong and not Greta. Greta should have apologized to Michelle. Greta shouldn’t have banned pundits from her show.

But hey, it looks like Eric Bolling got rid of the guy who was with CashinIn from the start. Gone was Jonathan Hoenig from #CashinIn. Let that be a lesson people! Don’t go against the major Trumpers at Fox News or you could lose your place on air. Who will join the ranks of Greta, Lou and Eric of banning people for not kissing the Trump ring??!

It never seems to dawn on these “Hillary Fans” that if it takes 5000 words to describe all the machinations, personal dynamics, public angst brought on by a PR nightmare brouhaha, the head that rolls will be that of the estimable finger-pointing Fox consultant on Cashin In,

Those are the facts of life. No other network is snapping up her and/or her cause either. That may change in months to come as the campaign politics get more dire. I wish someone had been there to guide her other than Twitter idiots.

Remember.. Greta was probably the 1st one at FNC or FBN to make the ridiculous claim

“Donald Trump is too honest”. Yes that same lie has been repeated by many now at FNC/FBN.
From Pierro, Dobbs, Regan and others.

Calling a guy who lies more than corrupt liar Hillary…. too honest. That’s Trump Shilling!

I watch Fox News 3-6 hrs daily, for years. Here’s my take: past 10 yrs white, attractive, female blonds are hired well over 80%. They had Lauren green (beautiful) Harris Faulkner, (2 backs) (1) Mexican, the rest BLONDS,BLONDS, give the viewers a break. Megyn Kelly bill ore illy, I house fighting, glen beck gone. Bob BECKEL gone thank you Jesus, he never saw a democrat that he didn’t like, or was wrong. 👍 Most reporting appears objective and I agree with them. My favorites are: Megyn Kelly, Abby huntsman (she will rise quickly)
I have down graded bill Reilly, Dana peri no. Can’t stand lis Weil and her constant head bobbing while agreeing with someone. Eric boiling should stop that stupid opening up his left hand and pointing to it when the five is on. It looks ridiculous, hopes he outgrows that OCD, other than that I like him. Doom & gloom hannity tired of hearing sos democrats want to push granny over the hill, want us to drink dirty water, etc., grow up Sean, it was nice that the dead weight is gone (combs). I have tried to get a message to trump thru several fox employees to no avail. Trump should pardon Gen Petraeus, promote to 5 star general and send back to Middle East to clean up OBAMAs mess. The VETS would love it, his supporters, and public would support it especially during this election. Those are my takes as a former police officer and vet.

Greta very easily could have advised Michelle privately, without inviting her legions of lunatic Trumper followers to chime in with attacks. At that moment Ms. Fields was already enduring a massive barrage of harassment. Greta’s “friendly advice” was not helpful in the least.

Michelle had made a public announcement of her intention to sue Trump. It makes no sense to accuse Greta of bringing Michelle to public attention by her comment.

It makes perfect sense to accuse Greta of unnecessarily using a public forum to offer Michelle “friendly advice” which Michelle would not perceive as friendly.

It’s not a “poke” to opine that such a suit would likely have limited success. That’s what Greta does got a living, if you haven’t noticed.

“Unnecessarily” using a public forum? Fields was appearing on various news shows across the board with follow-up opinionizing of every aspect of her story as well as how she had and should be handling things.

It’s a story that Fields wanted out there and Greta treated it as such (as did everyone else). Greta wasn’t playing psychiatrist or nurse maid or best friend to Fields, she was giving a profession opinion based upon what she has done for living in the past, and what she currently does now. Fields made it personal in the worse way. A mistake from frustration and anger that people make, but one someone in her profession had to know would be potentially costly.

What Michelle did wrong is turn down interview after interview. I was telling Michelle she had to get out there and fight. Michelle just did one interview for ABC and one for Megyn and then laid low while the prosecutor who was buddies with Trump bungled the case.

By staying off the airwaves, the Trumpers were able to change the narrative. The narrative should have been Corey and Trump flat out lied. He did grab her etc. And none of this would have happened at all had Corey just apologized like he told Michelle’s boss he was going to at the start. Instead of doing that, he went out and lied and tried to smear Michelle leaving her no choice but to sue so the video would come out. It wasn’t the Trump campaign who offered up surveillance video. It was because of the lawsuit that the video was obtained.

But Greta didn’t support Megyn Kelly and she sure went after trashing Michelle Fields (long before Michelle called her out). Greta is a Trump supporter. Just like so many at FNC/FBN. Bolling, Kim, Dobbs, Pierro, Watters etc. All on the Trump Train.

Greta and O’Reilly not taking Trump to task more over his denunciations of Kelly is not the same issue as Greta giving a professional opinion of the wisdom of a possible legal move by Fields.

In one case you have Trump making personal comments about Kelly, If Kelly felt that these two should have taken Trump to task more for this in their interviews of Trump, thats her opinion upon Trump’s personal behavior via Twitter, etc. That’s not the same as Fields’ slam on Greta’s motives and professionalism or on the claim here that Greta should have kept an opinion based her legal background to herself because she made matters worse for Fields in issuing it.

You guys can be operating under the opinion that there is some default pro-Trump bent at Fox and still make arguments that aren’t based opon your demanding some special treatment of Fields that wouldn’t have been offered to anyone else either.

Everyone had seen Greta shilling for Trump for months before that. Greta was listed with other FNC Sycophants long before this happened. You neglect to deal with Greta attacking SE Cupp, Katie Pavlich and others for sticking up for Michelle. “Get Over It” screamed Greta as she thought this was hurting her boy Trump.

Greta’s constant attacks on Michelle for weeks during this sure showed Greta was nowhere near an objective journalist but she was acting as a Trump Shill.

The fact that two people who stood up for Michelle…regular pundits on constantly… but then after that…boom… no longer appearing there.

Like Michelle should care about Greta’s legal opinion. I don’t recall Michelle asking for Greta the Scientologist to share her opinion. And if Greta thought she had to, she couldn’t have emailed Michelle or DM’d her? No, Greta was doing it for show to slam Michelle yet again.

And yes, there are numerous Trump Shills at FNC and FBN. But you probably won’t even acknowledge Bolling, Dobbs, Kim, Jesse, Pierro are Trump Shills. LOL

My recollection is that Fields appeared on two news shows. I also recall that Greta had already taken a shot at her on Gretawire before the “friendly advice” tweet. Michelle had every right to feel Greta was not being sincere, but rather shilling for Trump and Lewandowski, and I seriously doubt her reply made any difference at FNC. She had only been appearing on Cashin’ In, and there was no chance Bolling was ever having her back. His devotion to Trump is embarrassing.

Very True. Michelle turned down offer after after. She did ABC and then came on Megyn Kelly. Stayed low after that. And the Trumpers were able to just lie and lie during that time. Greta would have people on like Piers Morgan to smear and attack Michelle. Of course she wouldn’t have someone on the other side to challenge the claims.

NotFoxy, Michelle’s comment to Greta had ZERO to do with her not coming back. Michelle wanted and was ready to return weeks and weeks before that ever happened. The whole premise of this is just ridiculous.

Btw – this is in response to Mr. Wall Of Text – I think the rest of the article about major FNC players Tantaros and Henry is fine. The addition of Fields no longer appearing on one FBN show seems superfluous.

Nice, a show I actually watch. I look forward to the viewers being shocked that she’s still conservative. I like her, but the only thing we agree on is Trump is a goon.

A correction for the lunatic you’re talking to in Other World: Michelle Fields was not fired from anything. She quit Breitbart, and Cashin’ In was a non-paying invitation gig. She did not work for FNC/FBN.

Yes she did. Her contract ran out a several months before this fracas developed. She had continued appearing gratis, but had been under contract for a year, maybe two.

She was not an employee at the time of this situation, which was my point. Nobody fired Michelle Fields from anything.

When the entire thing is riddled with inaccuracies does it really matter? 😉

Michelle became a FNC Contributor in Sept 2014. The contract expired in Sept 2015 and FNC kept dicking her around as to if she would be resigned.

FNC has a horrible problem with screwing with talent like this. They know the options for conservative commentators are limited. So they play games with them. Dangle them around. Some have been screwed for a year before they are resigned. One of the great things the company does to people they act like they really care about.

I know several people who were offered deals but they refuse to take them. The money isn’t that great. You’ve got big restrictions on what you can/can’t do.

That said, Michelle wasn’t working for them. She was free to do what she wanted to do. And she was going to start appearing on other TV outlets soon (before this happened). And yes, she did quit Breitbart and a ton of other people also got off that
**** hole. Anyone with any integrity and soul abandoned that ship.

That said, the whole (certainly the Michelle part) is utter nonsense. They sure weren’t having Michelle back for shows going to air on April 2, April 9th or the April 16th episode. Ewww she called Greta a Trump shill. Shame Katie Pavlich and others didn’t call Greta that when she attacked them. Greta needs to be fired! Replace her horrible plastic surgery mess with Eboni K Williams. Someone who is smart, honest and objective. 3 things that don’t apply to Greta. Also EKW has integirty.

I didn’t mention Fields’ previous Fox employment because this is a very small circle of cable junkies, and I assumed everybody knew it. I made my point about the oft-told lie that she was fired, which generally coincides with the lie that she started this story for publicity. She did not. The guy from WaPo standing next to her witnessed the Lewandowski grab, and asked if he could use it. Michelle herself didn’t say a word until Trump and Lewandowski told the media it didn’t happen, “she made it up”, “she’s delusional.”

PS. I could do without comments about plastic surgery. That’s not necessary.
